21. Theme 296 ~Song Lyrics~

The Cyclone

I thought since I used the song “Palisades Park” in theme 4, I may as well use the lyrics for this theme.  The author of this song is  Chuck Barris, yes, THAT Chuck Barris of “Gong Show” fame (for those who remember),  and author of the book “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”.  I think  they made  a movie from the book.  Go figure!  (By the way, in case you didn’t know, if you right click the song title & open in a new tab, you’ll be able to see the lyrics as the song plays)

Palisades Park

Last night I took a walk after dark,

A swingin’ place called Palisades Park;

To have some fun and see what I could see,

That’s where the girls are.~

~I took a ride on the shoot the shoot,

The girl I sat beside was awful cute;

And when we stopped she was holdin’ hands with me

My heart was flyin’~

~Up a like a rocket ship,

Down a like a roller coaster,

Fast like a loop the loop

And around  like the merry-go-round~

~We ate and ate at a hot dog stand,

We danced around to a rockin’ roll band;

And when I could,

I gave that girl a hug, in the Tunnel of Love~

~You’ll never know how great a kiss can feel,

When you’ve stopped at the top of the Ferris Wheel,

Where I fell in love,

Down at Palisades Park

Down at Palisades Park

I totally forgot I had this poster.  Hadn’t thought about it in years!  Anyone remember?   “Last night I took a walk in the dark… A swingin’ place called Palisades Park….To have some fun and see what I could see……”  Freddie ‘Boom Boom’ Cannon???  Palisades Amusement Park was such a big part of life for everyone that lived in the area.  In the summer you could always find your friends there, either working or playing or just hanging out.  When it closed, it was truly the end of an era.  Oh, and they had the BEST french fries in the whole world (click HERE for the recipe!) and it really was built on the top of the cliffs!   The park opened in 1898 and closed in 1971.  I’d say that was a pretty good run!  Click  HERE  if you’d like some fascinating information about the Park.Palisades Amusement Park
