74. Theme 223 ~Pair~

These lovebirds are a pair of Monk parakeets in their colony in Edgewater, New Jersey.  While I was photographing them, dozens of others were flying in and out carrying twigs & sticks for their nests. If you click on the above link, you’ll find what a frenzy they’ve stirred up in the community.

  1. Simply Adorable!

  2. What a sweet shot, such amazing birds, you can’t help but admire them even if they may not belong.

  3. Nice contrast between the green and the browns in their nest. There is a documentary called “The Parrots of Telegraph Hill” about a flock of parrots and an eccentric man who takes care of them. It is on Netflix for free play I think.

  4. What a cute couple! They certainly don’t look dangerous. I’d love to have a few of those in my area. Maybe they’d keep the squirrels off my feeders. Nice photo!

  5. How cute! Great shot for the theme.

  6. How in the world do they survive so far north of their native lands? After all, Jew Jersey isn’t exactly noted for its mild climate. They are beautiful. And I would like to have one. But I do know what can happen when something live is introduced to an area where it is not native, the introduction has the possibility of decimating the area in more ways than one. Like the problems being caused recently by the Lion Fish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionfish
or the Kudzu vine – “the vine that ate the south:.
