241. Theme 10 ~Aged~
Not as old as some, but built in 1932…I think it qualifies. Besides, I get to use this fabulous place for another theme! Hinchliffe Info
154. Theme 233 ~Photographer~
I was fortunate enough recently to attend a lecture and slide show given by George Tice. According to the Getty Museum, Mr. Tice is “one of the best known fine-art photographers in the nation. His prints are in many museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum, where he had a one-man show in 1972.” While he was giving his lecture, I snapped this photo of him looking at a slide of himself taken 40 years ago. Mr. Tice completed his latest book, Paterson II, in 2006, which is a sequel to Paterson, published in 1972. He said his favorite photo of his Paterson series is Joe’s Barbershop.
68. Theme 5 ~Abandoned~
So this is the famous Hinchliffe Stadium! : – ) (See previous theme) HERE is the main information page. In addition to baseball, the stadium hosted football, boxing, motorcycle & auto racing as well as track & field and music & entertainment events…Duke Ellington even performed one of his last concerts there! I’m sorry I never knew about this wonderful place until now. I’m finding out a lot by participating in this Challenge!! The stadium closed permanently in 1997 but is still a beautiful architectural gem in downtown Paterson.
67. Theme 31 ~Box Offices/Wickets~
Back in the day (1932), these ticket windows were busy, busy, busy!!! They’re part of Hinchliffe “City” Stadium in Paterson, NJ. The stadium has a very rich baseball history, including hosting the New York Black Yankees. Who even knew there was such a team??? Here is some intriguing info if you’re interested. In 2004, Hinchliffe Stadium was placed on the New Jersey State and National Registers of Historic Places and presently, there is a movement to restore it.
51. Theme 188 ~Monuments or Memorials~
“Lou’s on First” is the name of this monument/memorial located in Paterson, NJ. It was dedicated in June, 1992 as a tribute to their home town boy, Lou Costello. For those not familiar with Abbott & Costello, (Bud Abbott was the other half of this comedy duo), check them out here. To see one of their most famous routines, “Who’s on First”, click here. Enjoy! Hey Abbott!!!!!!
